HONG KONG, March 13 - Hong Kong's index ofindustrial production fell 6.5 percent in 2008, the Census andStatistics department said on Friday.

Textiles output was down 19.4 percent and that of electricaland electronic products, machinery, professional equipment andoptical goods was down 12.6 percent.

Consumer electrical and electronic products output decreasedby 14.8 percent. Output of chemicals, rubber, plastic andnon-metallic mineral products fell 1.7 percent.

Food, beverages and tobacco output increased 2.6 percentwhile paper products and printing output was down 0.5 percent.

Basic metals and fabricated metal products output decreasedby 8.7 percent and that of machinery, equipment, apparatus, partsand components fell 11.9 percent.

Production of wearing apparel, except footwear, was down 18.6percent.
