What is Aluminum Forging and Impact Extrusion?
Forging and impact extrusion are processes used to fabricate aluminum and other metals into a "net" or "near net" shape. Grand Forge USA uses hydraulic presses to create your products, punching a lubricated aluminum slug into a die or mold with extreme force.

For forged aluminum products, the metal is first heated to approximately 800°F. Once it s heated, a hydraulic press is utilized to shape the metal into a precision machined die. Instead of being forged into a die, impact extrusions are pressed into the die cavity and then the aluminum flows out around the press, creating the final shape of your product.

After the forging or extrusion process is complete, parts are heat treated and can be machined to your specifications. We can also provide you with the raw extrusions if preferred.

As an economical alternative to other metal shaping processes, forging and impact extrusion provides for a reduction in a material waste, tight dimensional tolerances and low tooling costs coupled with a long tool life.
